At last -- A Resizing Query Editor! GoldSQL!
 SquareGiraffe has designed a brand new interface that
overcomes the problems with the standard Goldmine
query editor, and adds some exciting new features.
A sorely deficient capability of the standard Goldmine
SQL interface is for the query editor window to resize, so
that you can see the whole query. The new interface from
SquareGiraffe allows you to alternatively resize the query
editor part of the window and the result set part of the
window.
In addition, GoldSQL allows you to perform queries
between CONTACT1 and the CAL table. All the standard“common” tables are stored in a separate directory in
DBase versions, which made it awkward to do queries
between the two above mentioned tables. GoldSQL
automatically adds a few entries to the user.ini file, which
allows it to link all the Goldmine tables. In fact, any
external table can be linked to your Goldmine data, by
simply entering the folder of the table.
GoldSQL saves the queries you create in the standard
Goldmine tables. This has the benefit that it makes the
queries available to other users in your business that
simply need to run the queries, rather than edit the
queries.

Dynamic sizing

- GoldSQL dynamically resizes the results grid and the SQL query editor window
when you resize the form
- Use the splitter bar (between the SQL query editor window and the results grid)
to resize the area occupied by either - if you are busy editing the query, you
probably need to see as much as possible of the query - and once you execute
the query, you will want to see more of the results grid
Allows querying
between
CONTACT1 and
CAL tables
- In DBase, the "common" tables like (CAL.DBF) are stored in a different path (All
tables are in a single database in the SQL version). The drawback of the DBase
version is that you cannot easily do queries between the CAL and CONTACT1
tables. GoldSQL makes this possible. In fact, with a simple entry in the user.ini
file, GoldSQL can perform queries between the Goldmine tables and any
external ODBC table
Save queries to
standard Goldmine
tables
- Save the queries to the standard Goldmine tables, so that other Goldmine users
can access and run the queries from the standard Goldmine SQL tab if they
don't have GoldSQL
Create groups from
result set
- Once you have a result set from a query, create a group directly from GoldSQL
with a single click
Open multiple
copies of GoldSQL
- You may have a scenario where you want to alternatively open two different
queries, to compare the results. GoldSQL allows you to open multiple copies of
the program, which can each run and display different queries
Grid mode
- There is a "Toggle Grid" button that enables you to view (and execute) all the
queries from a "grid view"
- When in Grid mode, you will be able to find the query you are looking for more
easily - either by browsing the query records in the grid, or by using the
advanced find. The advanced find (Ctrl-F) tries to match the value you type
anywhere - even embedded in the actual query. Simply select the column you
want to search on, and press CTRL-F, enter the value and press ENTER. To
find subsequent records that match the search, press F3
- When you have found the query you are looking for, click "Select and show", to
return you to editor mode, ready for making modifications to the query
Delete unused
queries in a logical
manner
- In Grid mode, click the button in the navigation bar of buttons below the grid.
You will be prompted to confirm the deletion
- The process of saving and deleting queries is made a lot simpler in GoldSQL
Use a range of
keyboard shortcuts
- Press F2 in grid mode to view the details of the query, or click the Zoom button
in the upper left corner of the grid
- Ctrl-F, F3, F6, F8 perform various other functions, detailed in the online help
ActiveSync
- Dynamically position Goldmine on the record being scrolled in the results grid.
- As long as ACCOUNTNO is in the result set, the Goldmine cursor will be
repositioned dynamically as you scroll through the records
There is an option to switch off ActiveSync

System Requirements:
- All SquareGiraffe programs
make use of an efficient library that is common to all
programs. The library files need 7 MB hard disk space,
and the GoldSQL program needs 90 KB.
